Mountain Bike Legend

Santa Cruz Bicycles was founded in 1994 in a space not much bigger than a two car garage at 104 Bronson Street in Santa Cruz, California. The Seabright Cannery industrial complex was also home to our compatriots at Santa Cruz Skateboards, RockShox, a surfboard shaper, two bakeries, a salsa company, multiple artists studios, a coffee roaster, a climbing gym, and other assorted riff-raff. Quite an eclectic, but very creative environment.

Our first bike model was the Tazmon—an 80mm travel, dual-suspension bike that rattled established sensibilities, and launched the Santa Cruz Bicycles brand into the full-suspension future. 30 years and 89 bike models later, we’re still pushing the envelope while remaining simply advanced.

In 1994 mountain bikes typically came in two flavors—either road bike-esque cross country hardtails, or motorcycle-like downhill sleds. Santa Cruz sought to split the difference with a bike that had elements of both. Something that’s commonplace now.

Santa Cruz Bicycles creates category-leading downhill, cross country, and electric bikes, but the company is best known for models that combine the same pedalability and descending prowess the OG Tazmon brought to the table. We design, research, engineer, manufacture and assemble the very highest quality bikes. They are so simply advanced that they make bicycling even more enjoyable and are made to last many lifetimes of real world abuse.

No Missed Rides

As we grew from a one-person show into a full-fledged company, we chose Rider Support as a core component of our approach. Every decision was made from the perspective of a rider, which is why we offer lifetime rider support (lifetime warranty, lifetime bearing replacement, and lifetime support on all models). It's also why we committed $1M to the PayDirt fund to increase the access to trails. It's all to ensure better access to better biking experiences and that riders have many more great rides.

Quality Product, Quality Process

We have our hands on every stage of development and construction of a bicycle, because we do it right here in Santa Cruz, Ca. We design and engineer everything ourselves, we own our own carbon fiber frame factory and we assemble all our bikes ourselves. We grease the links, torque the bolts, gather all the parts from our warehouse using trolleys we built, and when the bikes are assembled, we put them into cardboard boxes we designed.

In-House Wheels

We build and quality-control all our wheels in-house because we don’t want anyone’s after-work or weekend rides spoiled by bikes that squeak, fail, need babying, or give an excuse not to hit that sweet gap.
