Announcing the 2022 PayDirt Recipients

June 01 — 2022 | Santa Cruz, California

Learn more about the new organizations that are a part of our PayDirt program

Santa Cruz's PayDirt initiative has named 11 organizations as the new funding recipients for 2022. Encompassing a wide variety of projects—from mountain bike mentorship programs to adaptive trail- and kid-focused trail building to all-weather trail networks. The new PayDirt recipients are stand-out additions to the program's $1 million pledge to fund projects that create and strengthen opportunities for people to get out on the trails.

Here’s a quick rundown of the 2022 PayDirt organizations.

Iconic trail development projects:

  • Appalachian Mtn Bike Club (Knoxville, Tennessee) will be working with their partners over at The Drop Inn to expand permanent trail access for the community by adding four new trails—including two rowdy, progressive, all-weather downhill trails that will provide users of all abilities with new experiences. Visit @ambcknox on Instagram.
  • SEALPS (Sospel & Roya Valley, FR) is working to revive forgotten trails and build new connections, including the "Vallon de Bachialon" in the Roya Valley (and several trails in the Sospel region), which will be part of the 2022 Stone King Rally route. Visit www.sealps.eu to learn more.

Programs geared at strengthening inclusive and diverse community building:

  • Colour The Trails (British Columbia, CAN) received funding to support the group's MTB Mentorship Program, which aims at supporting Queer, Black, Indigenous, and Racialized folks who are new to the sport by connecting them with experienced riders in the community. Visit @colourthetrails on Instagram.
  • Jersey Off Road Bicycle Association (West Milford, New Jersey) will be building Stags – New Jersey’s first accessible trail for adaptive riders –a 3950′ route suitable for beginner to intermediate adaptive riders, mountain bikers, and hikers. Visit @jorbaorg on Instagram.
  • Trash Free Trails (Wales, UK) received funding to support their State of Our Trails Summit, which will bring a broad spectrum of the recreational trail community together to put the protection and enhancement of the trails and wild places at the 'top of the bill.' Visit @trashfreetrails on Instagram.
  • The Roswell/Alpharetta MTB Organization (Roswell, Georgia) will be building the Big Creek Park Kids Skills Area, suited for kids and beginner riders, featuring a mix of dirt rollers and small boulders ladders, and skinnies. Visit @rambomtb on Instagram.
  • Indigenous Women Outdoors (British Columbia, CAN) received funding for their mountain bike program, which includes a mentorship program to bring intermediate riders to the next level, guided social rides to get new riders into the sport, and bike maintenance workshops. Visit @indigwomenoutdoors on Instagram.
  • BikeHouston (Houston, TX) will be redesigning their bike map to identify off-street paths, low-stress on-street routes, and off-road facilities while providing safety tips, local bike laws, and other resources for people on bikes. Visit @bikehouston on Instagram.
