Mixed Wheels
The mixed wheel configuration of a 29-inch wheel up front provides traction and stability, while the 27.5" rear wheel allows for quick back wheel steering and lifting.
Glovebox
Place your ride essentials securely beneath a new high-quality latch and panel in the 5010's downtube. The Glovebox comes with a fitted Tool Wallet and Tube Purse, tailored for the frame to keep your tools close to hand.
Full carbon CC frame
CC frames use the very best materials and production processes available. We tailor stiffness for every size to make sure everyone gets the same ride quality. Bigger riders means greater stresses on larger frames, but that's remedied with our size-specific frame stiffness tunes.
Sag window
A window allows easier suspension sag and setup. The details are completed by a neat mud flap to protect the rear shock plus tidy cable routing within the frame and swingarm, and rubberized DT protectors to shrug off strikes.
Made to last many lifetimes
The legendary Santa Cruz fit, finish and quality construction put this into a league of its own. The frame, bearings and optional Reserve wheels come with a lifetime warranty and any service is easy to do with our Rider Support pledge.

VPP™
VPP™ suspension can be optimized to strike the right balance between pedaling efficiency and all-out bump chomping prowess. That means wherever you see "VPP™" you know it's tuned to perform exactly how it should for the purpose it's designed for.
130mm VPP™ travel
Some call it short travel, others call it all the travel you'll need. This much travel isn't going to help shrug off the biggest, fastest rock gardens like a V10 downhill race bike, but it's going to feel like you've got a V10 under the hood of your motor when it comes to freeway freestyling miles.
Traction and big hits
For 5010, we wanted to find the balance of support and grip to maximize the bike’s descending and big-hitting capability. We started with a significantly less anti-squat (than previous generation 5010) to provide sensitive, ground-tracking qualities and reduced pedal kick.
Support and playfulness
We gave the 5010 a very straight, highly progressive leverage curve to give the rider plenty of predictable support, bottom-out resistance, and playful response. This means the travel is accessible and higher impacts aren’t as jarring as you’d expect from a short-travel bike.

FAQ's
What rear shock sizes and models will fit the 5010
The 5010 will fit most air shocks on the market, with the exceptions being the Fox Float X2 and Cane Creek. Depending on the exact model, the 5010 comes stock with a custom tuned Rockshox Super Deluxe or Fox Float DPS. The Fox Float X will also fit without issue.
What fork is the 5010 designed for?
The 5010 is designed around a 140mm travel 29" fork with 44mm offset.
Why MX (Mixed Wheels)?
Mixed wheels provide the stability and traction of a 29" front wheel with the agility of a 27.5" rear wheel. The smaller rear wheel and its comparatively lower axle height allows the rider to more easily unweight the front wheel- this makes for confident yet agile handling at speed, while retaining the 5010's playful feel.
Do all sizes use MX wheels?
All new 5010 frame sizes are MX
I'm coming from a 27.5 bike- what will feel different with MX? Any setup tips?
An MX bike will handle differently than a full 27.5 bike. The main difference you'll feel is a more stable and confident front end. The turning will be a little bit slower than a 27.5, but the payoff is a more secure feeling in corners and more traction. Due to the taller front axle height and improved roll-over of the large wheel, your chances of stuffing the front wheel or going over the bars is vastly diminished. Use this security to ride challenging terrain with a more aggressive and dynamic body position.
What fork offset is the recommended?
The 5010 comes with 44mm offset forks, and this is what we recommend for optimal handling.
I see there are different chainstay lengths for each size bike. Can I buy a different swingarm to customize the length on my bike?
The chainstay length change occurs in the front triangles - we vary the pivot locations fore and aft to achieve the different lengths while using a single size swingarm. The chainstay lengths are frame size specific and cannot be modified.
What's the largest rear rotor that will fit on the 5010?
The 5010 will fit up to a 220mm rotor. The frame is 180mm-direct, so that's the minimum size that's compatible.
Can I put a 27.5 front wheel on the 5010?
These bikes are designed specifically to use mixed wheels. Putting a 27.5" front wheel on there will lower the BB height and mess with the handling a lot. Stick with 29" up front.
Is there chainguide compatibility?
Yes, this bike is equipped with ISCG-05 tabs for easy chain guide mounting. Most guides/bash guards that follow the ISCG-05 standard should fit.
Should I ride in the High or Low shock flip-chip setting?
You should definitely try both, but we typically recommend starting in High. In the High setting, the bike rides a little higher in its travel and supplies the rider with more mid-stroke support. In the Low position, the shock rate becomes more progressive, particularly at the end of the stroke, and there’s some bottom-out resistance to be gained.
What kind of headset does this bike use?
This bike uses integrated headset cups. The upper up is 41mm and the lower cup is 52mm. The SHIS name is IS 41/28.6 IS 52/40.For Chris King this is a DropSet.3
Does the 5010 MX use the SRAM Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH)?
The frame is UDH-compatible, but comes with our own machined aluminum hanger. You can replace it with another Santa Cruz hanger or a SRAM UDH.
What can I store in the glovebox?
The 5010 MX comes with two bags - a tube purse and a tool wallet. You should be able to fit a superlight tube, a small pump, tire lever, and misc odds and ends in these two bags.
