Bikes that last a lifetime

First and foremost, we build bikes that last a lifetime. Every bike we design in our Santa Cruz, Calif. factory has a story to tell—one of being ridden hard, put away wet, but always coming back for more. It's not hyperbole—it's bombproof frame construction, a lower-link grease port, shuttle guards, and sealed bearings in all pivots, which we’ll replace for free if they wear out.

It’s the idea that if we build bikes really well, and back them up with a lifetime warranty and rider support, we’ve created something that’s not only durable and sustainable, but inspiring and fulfilling as well.

A Force for Good

Santa Cruz Bicycles was founded on the belief that bikes are a force for good, and that they bring out the best in people. The world has changed quite a bit since 1994, but that attitude still holds true. It comes to life in the partners we ride with, the communities we support, and the initiatives we drive.

Sun-Powered Factory

In 2016 our world headquarters in Santa Cruz, underwent a solar retrofit that included adding 1,100 panels to the top of the building and another 930 over the parking lot across the street. The resulting 80,000 square feet of solar panels generate almost all the energy required to run the factory—another step towards lowering our climate impact.

Riding to Work

It goes without saying that Santa Cruz's 200+ employees love bikes. We love making them, riding them, and getting around on them—which includes commuting to work. In addition to supporting efforts to increase cycling infrastructure locally, Santa Cruz incentivizes employees to ride their bikes, walk, or carpool to work to help take a small step towards reducing CO2 emissions—and since 2019, they have ridden more than 115,000 commute miles.

Thoughtful packaging, tons of recycling

Not only did we design our own bike boxes in a smartly-engineered package that eliminates nearly all plastics and foams, but we also recycle 83% of the packaging materials used by our suppliers. And if you ever need to ship a bike, hit up one of our retailers to see if they’ll give ya one—they’re the best in the biz.

PayDirt

PayDirt is our commitment to increasing access to trails by supporting the work of the people who make it happen. As a start, we pledged $1 million over three years towards trail projects, organizations, events, and programs. Through matching grants and fundraisers we managed to turn that $1 million dollars into $3 million dollars of collective funding. There’s now more than a dozen brands who contribute to PayDirt and the impact is global.

Today, we promise to pay it even further forward to improve access to riding bicycles now and in future... and we welcome anyone and everyone to join us for the ride. Whether volunteering for projects or contributing to the program, PayDirt has opportunities to get involved for people and businesses alike. Find out more here: www.paydirt.earth

Trail Building Culture

Santa Cruz employees around the globe are passionate about building and maintaining trails. From helping on large-scale projects as part of our PayDirt initiative to maintaining local trails and pump tracks, Santa Cruz rewards employees for keeping the stoke high and the riding dialed with paid days off to go dig.

Events We Support

We sponsor events that have lasting commitments to the communities in which they operate. We don't just throw banners and course tape up for the race, then forget about it for the rest of the year. Instead, we work with dedicated partners who have long-term visions to enrich their communities, and the dedication to improve the mountain bike experience for generations to come. Some examples include the Downieville Classic, Stone King Rally, Transcascadia, and Ard Rock Enduro.

Santa Cruz Bicycles is a brand ambassador for Blue Whales Blue Skies, a voluntary Vessel Speed Reduction (VSR) Program along the coast of California which incentivizes companies to incorporate sustainable shipping practices across their global supply chain. By creating seasonal and predictable slow speed zones, this program helps companies protect endangered whales, reduce fuel use and regional greenhouse gas emissions, and improve air quality and human health outcomes.
