Look, anyone can write a letter to us and ask for a bike. In some cases, we seek other people out and give them bikes. But what is it that makes a rider stand out? What do we look for in a sponsored athlete? Please for an instant try not to include the Santa Cruz Syndicate riders in this equation. If you were to ask “What makes a Santa Cruz Syndicate rider?” the answer would most likely be “Mad downhill skills, must be 6′3″, preferably with an accent from Britain or one of the colonies.” But there’s more to the roving band of Santa Cruz brand ambassadors than just our high profile megathletes (megathletes – I just made that word up). A whole lot more. We’ve got endurance XC racers, we’ve got crispy big-mountain riders, we’ve got young up and coming slopestylers, women who can rip the legs clean off most guys, dancing circus bears, a blind downhiller, and the grumpiest bald all-rounder in the world. And then there’s Chris Duncan.

So, just what does it take to be a Santa Cruz Free Agent? Well, athletic talent is a good start. But in this modern age, charisma and the ability to reach out to others is also important. As is the ability to broadcast oneself without us having to drag said athlete screaming and kicking to the keyboard. And, to hit that final high note and get in Roskopp’s good graces, it helps to be kinda crazy.

Now go get yerself some Chris Duncan Clothing!

  3. Next time I’m in the mood to purchase a bike, I will remeber chris duncan and forget about santa cruz as a potential supplier of said bike.

  4. okay, let me get this straight: a guy who we gave a couple frames to (one of which apparently still hasn’t been built up in over a year judging by that most recent crap video) spams the forum message board of a popular mtb website. he then spends most of thanksgiving day baiting people, and basically acting like a troll. maybe he changed his meds, maybe he was lonely, maybe he was having fun. but still, we’re talking about one guy posting up some basically harmless stuff, ON AN INTERNET FORUM!

and because of that you are so mortally offended that “next time you’re in a mood to purchase a bike you will remember chris duncan and forget about santa cruz”? really? he ruined your life? destroyed your thanksgiving? did somebody die here? jesus, man, grow a pair. we think chris is a kook, a basically harmless and sometimes entertaining kook. we don’t pay him anything, and we don’t really expect greatness from him. he goes out, does demos for kids, gets them all riled up about safety and staying off drugs, and does his thing in his own off-kilter way. if you want to tar and feather our entire company based on less than one minute of kinda retarded video produced by some guy you saw on the internet, i would suggest that you sit down somewhere quiet and spend some time analyzing your decision making processes.

  5. How can Chris Duncan, someone who is clearly on drugs, preach to kids to stay off drugs? He must do it in a look at me and how drugs have ruined me kind of way.

Its a shame I sold both my santa cruz bikes and now I can’t be like this douche bag

  6. I love it. Seriously, I was on this “MTB forum” yesterday came across Chris’s spam, the dude is able to market to a section of the market that many companies don’t even bother with, the weekend warriors, the guys who have a shit ton of money smoke too much dope, and troll internet forums all day long occasionally riding their highly priced mt bikes, but mostly just taking pictures of them and showing them off on the web, saying how sick they are at riding them, yet the frames show little to no sign of wear… Chris Duncan is a business nightmare, but as far as marketing to the target audience, the dude is a genius. I dig it Chris, but the actual trolling was a bit much ;)

  7. C.D. clearly needs an intervention.

  8. Until you understand that this guy rules the internet/life, you are all failures.

Also, no one here can 180 a coaster-brake bike.

    Skills, son!

  9. He teaches kids to stay off drugs? What? I made it nine seconds into the first video before catching a subliminal single frame of Chris smoking a bong. Here’s how the logic works to those of us that take this into account:

Chris is clearly a freakin idiot.
Santa Cruz likes and encourages him.
    Santa Cruz are also idiots.

Maybe if we spend more time analyzing our feelings about Santa Cruz, we’ll come to see some greater truth or some such thing. But few are going to bother. They’re going to take it at face value, and go look at Yetis or something instead.

  10. wow, looks like someone needs a hug… pay attention here – that bong hit picture you speak of was a worldwide phenomenom, a very popular image. it was michael phelps hitting that bong. we have no idea what chris might have intended by tossing that image into his videos. we’ve also caught glimpses of men in girls panties, tony danza, larry hagman, and mark weir. we try not to read much into it and let the dude go about doing whatever it is he is doing, which is clearly his own program. weird, yet oddly fascinating to some of us. but you think it was chris sucking down that lungful, which helps you solidify your desire to call him an idiot.

    well done. excellent logic.

    well done. excellent logic.

  11. ^Gestat^, you are mistaken. It’s actually a subliminal single frame of Michael Phelps hitting the bong.
You know, the guy that broke all those records in that world class competition called the Olympics?
Keep in mind I’m just saying this, but you might need to spend more time “analyzing” the intricate structures of these videos I create.
Also, I’d like to take a moment to talk about the bike shows I do.
I do not do drugs (well, if you count coffee I and the rest of the world have a problem.)
I think that drugs might be a waste of time and money.(If anyone reading this has experience on the topic do tell…pro or anti ? )
I know that SOME, but certainly NOT ALL teachers, airline pilots, CEOs , lawyers, dentists, doctors, actors, nurses, McDonald’s food techs, chefs, beauticians, accountants, auto mechanics, bike mechanics, pro skaters, pro downhills, pro freeriders and other unmentioned professionals poke smot.
With the above list covering more of the popular jobs in the world(sorry if I forgot you), I’d like to say that unless someone is living under a rock or in a church (full time) you are aware that kids understand that people use drugs.
Kids are not stupid, and can choose for themselves if they should or should not use drugs(For the record, I’m not saying they should and I wouldn’t want my kids to use drugs. However, I probably wont have kids, but I’m just saying ).
In my bike shows I do not mention ANYTHING about drugs. I do mention fun and promote finding something to do in their lives that is mentally or physically healthy.
I demonstrate and recommend a few forms of cycling that are possible activities they can enjoy. However, the main goal is to inspire them towards a positive direction. Click the link in this reply to see video of my bike show.
